JOSEPHINE LAU

FOUNDER, GRACE X STRENGTH

Josephine,  known to most as "Jo", is the Founder of Grace x Strength, a yoga therapist, mother of two boys, Migraine Warrior, and postgraduate psychology student at UNSW, with a focus on trauma, psychology, and migraine.

Grace x Strength was born out of Jo's own unravelling and rebuilding. Her journey into yoga began during her second pregnancy, after a traumatic first birth left her searching for a gentler, more grounded way to support her body. Yoga met her right there. Her second labour was a stark difference from her first, and she walked away convinced she had found something transformative for pain and anxiety management. So she trained, taught and poured herself into sharing it with others.

But God had more to teach her. Juggling a corporate career, motherhood, and yoga teaching, her migraine condition quietly worsened, shifting from episodic to chronic levels, even as she kept practising yoga. That humbled her. It pushed her back to the roots of yoga, self-inquiry... and deeper into her faith. She began asking harder questions: not just about the body, but about how we suffer, how we heal, and where God meets us in both.

That season of honest questioning led her to psychology. Today, Jo is studying the neuroscience of trauma and early life stress, and its relationship to chronic pain conditions like migraine. She is especially drawn to emerging embodied treatments, approaches that honour the whole person, and is committed to bringing what she learns back to this community in ways that are practical, accessible, and grounded in hope.

Jo has completed over 1,000 hours of yoga training, beginning with Holy Yoga in 2015, and holds certifications in Yoga Therapy, Chair Yoga, and Kids Yoga. Also trained by her guru Briohny Smyth, she is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-500) with Yoga Alliance and an Ambassador for Migraine Australia. She is also honoured to be the first registered Christian Yoga Teacher on Yoga Australia, Neuroscience & Yoga, Migraine Australia, Yoga Journal, Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), Salvation Army magazine (Warcry), Eternity News, Modern Witnesses, Wesley Mission, and more.

Most of all, Jo is someone who has sat in the hard middle - between diagnosis and hope, between striving and surrender - and found that grace really is strength.

In between her studies and entrepreneurial ventures, you'll find her at the ballet studio or figure skating, cheering on her husband and boys at sports, or laughing with friends over coffee.

"THEREFORE, AS GOD'S CHOSEN PEOPLE, HOLY AND DEARLY LOVED, CLOTHE YOURSELVES WITH COMPASSION, KINDNESS, GENTLENESS AND PATIENCE. BEAR WITH EACH OTHER AND FORGIVE ONE ANOTHER IF ANY OF YOU HAS A GRIEVANCE AGAINST SOMEONE. FORGIVE AS THE LORD FORGAVE YOU. AND OVER ALL THESE VIRTUES PUT ON LOVE, WHICH BINDS THEM ALL TOGETHER IN PERFECT UNITY." ~ COLOSSIANS 3:12-14
